The Writer Blog Prompt Challenge – A for Achievement

This is the start of a 26 week blog challenge set by Ari Meghlan. I think it’s a great idea and have decided to play along. This week’s word is Achievement.

My big achievement is the fact I’ve been an indie author for 10 years!

This milestone passed by very quietly on 16th November 2025. I suppose I wasn’t feeling very successful and didn’t want to advertise the fact that I’m not yet a big name in the book world, nor am I able to support myself with writing alone.

But now I am ready to celebrate it, because although there have been a lot of challenges, it can’t be denied that I have achieved one of my dreams…

I am a published author with 4 full length novels and 4 short story collections to my name.

I have plans to write and publish a lot more over the next 10 years. My books have been downloaded by thousands of people and I’ve hit a few bestseller lists on Amazon, albeit briefly. My books have had lots of wonderful reviews, and I’ve even had the amazing experience of being called a reader’s favourite author. In 2021 I was a finalist in the book bloggers novel of the year with The Lost Sentinel, and the opening of my romance novel Secrets and Love Songs at The Mermaid Hotel came second in the flash 500 novel opening competition in 2023.

One of the biggest achievements came early on when I was contacted by a publisher and had my debut, Visions of Zarua, translated into Czech. I travelled to Prague, visited my publisher and the local bookshops to see my books on the shelves.

The last 10 years have involved a lot of learning, and plenty of tears, but I wouldn’t go back and change it. This is my achievement and I am owning it today.

Thank you to Ari for starting off this challenge. Here is a link to her post on Achievement where she shares her thoughts on the subject and also links to anyone else who has decided to take part. Please take a look and join in if you feel inspired.

Next week B is for Book trailer.

A recent review of Visions of Zarua #audiobook #fantasy

I realise I haven’t posted anything for quite a while as I’ve been busy with a new job and working out how to fit writing and life around this big change. I’ve also had teens going through GCSE’s and A levels, which is a difficult time all round. Now the summer holidays have hit, things are settling down and I’m hoping for a peaceful summer.

I plan to review my goals for 2023 in another post very soon, this is just a quick update to let you know I’m still here!

I wanted to share this recent review of my audiobook, Visions of Zarua, because it reminded me why I should keep finding time to write. Sometimes it’s easy not to bother, but I know I’m a happier person when I’m writing. I’m even happier when I get reviews like this.

‘A thrilling story guaranteed to leave you wanting more and more until the story reaches its conclusion. . Memorable Characters, magic, sadness, happiness, and twists and turns make up this epic novel. Beautifully narrated by the narrator. He brings the characters alive in a superb way. Give it a read, you will not regret a second, I promise.’

Here’s the link to the book page on audible. Thanks to the reviewer, Greg, for sharing his thoughts.

Guy Barnes did an amazing job narrating Visions of Zarua and I would love his work to get more recognition. I still have some free codes available if you would like a listen. Let us know what you think.

I’ll leave you with a taster of Guy at work. I love how he gets into character!

The #IndieApril book sale is back! #indieauthors

For the next 3 days, 1st to 3rd April, 150 indie authors like myself have joined together and organised a huge book sale.

There are fantasy, sci-fi and horror books on offer at various price points, including free, so please take a look at the sales page.

My own books are also included at just 99p each, so if you haven’t read them now is a great time to try. Visions of Zarua and The Lost Sentinel.

I’ve just had a quick browse and already picked up 8 books to add to my TBR. I will try and share some more info on those books and spread a little more love before the sale ends.

Please share this post and help share the love for indie authors. And don’t forget to check out the sales page right here.

Paperback release Fantasy Short Stories #new release #fantasy #shortfiction http://mybook.to/fantasySS

Just a quick post today to announce the publication of my fantasy short story collection in paperback.

The ebook came out in April and has received some lovely reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. I decided it was time to publish a paperback so those readers who prefer that format do not miss out on the origin stories of some of the characters from my fantasy worlds.

Readers loved Garrick in Silent Sea Chronicles and I loved writing Garrick the Protector set 10 years before the start of book 1 The Lost Sentinel.

Readers never had a chance to meet Kalesh in Visions of Zarua, so again I loved being able to introduce him to the world in The Guardian.

Finally, we have War Wounds which is an introduction to some of the characters who will feature in my new series Starlight Prophecy. I can’t wait to get working on this.

For now, here’s the all important link to Amazon Fantasy Short Stories

I’ve updated the blurb to a more succinct version too. Let me know what you think.

A collection of stories featuring characters from Visions of Zarua, ‘Silent Sea Chronicles’ and a glimpse into the new series, ‘Starlight Prophecy’.

The Guardian

With an assassin picking off wizards one-by-one, can Kalesh keep his students off the assassin’s radar long enough for his order to stop the killer?

Garrick the Protector

In a land that persecutes magic users, Mara’s mystical abilities puts her whole family in danger. Can her cousin, Garrick, get her to safety in the Turrak Mountains before the Assembly catches up with them?

War Wounds

When months of bloody battle unleash a sixth sense buried inside Calder, all he wants is to go home to his wife. But can he pick up his old life when the powers within him have been awakened?

Each story gives readers a tantalising glimpse into the fantasy worlds created by Suzanne Rogerson.
