Mid year update #amwriting #amwritingfantasy #indieauthor

I haven’t been around on social media as much as I’d like as I’ve been juggling writing projects. I hope things will calm down once my latest book is released on 6th July. More about that in a moment.

What I’ve been doing…

I’ve tried a few new ventures. A craft bookstall at my local high street Staines-upon-Thames, where I met some nice people and managed to sell a few books too. A couple of people bought all three of my books, which was a great boost and made the day worthwhile.

DSC_3845

I shared the stall with G.J Stevens who writes Zombie thrillers. I’ve read his debut In The End and highly recommend it. Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to share my review here at some point.

A week later, I joined forces with two authors G.J Stevens again and Katy Johnson who writes mystery thrillers and we ran a pop-up author shop in Eton high street. It wasn’t as successful as Staines, but again I met some interesting people and we hope to run the shop again in July on a couple of dates. More info will follow and I hope to get some more pictures the next time around.

DSC_3860

DSC_3863

I now feel more confidant with these type of events and have my public liability set up for a year, so I’m determined to make more use of it! Anyone know any local events we can crash?

Last week I went to Winchester Writers’ Festival and attended a fun workshop about fantasy writing run by Jasper Fforde. I also pitched a new novel idea to two agents and a publisher and received some encouraging feedback along with plenty of ideas to develop the novel. I highly recommend the day and want to thank @JunoGoldstone for showing me around and making the day less daunting.

Writing News

OTHER NEWS

And onto my other big news, the audiobook for Visions of Zarua is complete and is just going through the checks by ACX. I hope to have a link to share very soon. Any audio book reviewers who enjoy fantasy and want a free code, let me know and I’ll add you to the list.

I have another very interesting project in the pipeline and good news for all the residents of Staines-upon-Thames, I’ll be appearing in a pop-up craft shop in July. I’ll cover this in another post very soon.

That’s it for my latest news, so I’ll be back tomorrow with the start of the two book blog tour. Hope you can join us.

I’ll leave you with the trailer for the audiobook. Guy Barnes, the narrator, composed the music and produced this trailer. It’s brilliant, so please share.

Visions of Zarua Czech cover reveal #fantasy #translation

I am very excited to share the book cover for the Czech translation of Visions of Zarua. I believe the translation of the title is Zarua – Lost City.

The publication date is 9th September 2019.

Zarua

What do you think of the cover? I really love it and did have something similar in mind before I found the image for my own self published version. The designer has done a wonderful job bringing the book to life.

Here’s my cover for comparison, still pretty good I think.

Visions of Zarua book cover

Fragment’s Pendragon world fantasy series includes some wonderful authors, including my hero Robin Hobb! Seeing my book alongside hers in the quarterly magazine is a dream come true.

It’s so exciting to think that in just a few months Visions of Zarua will be available in bookshops and it’s made me more determined to get my book into UK bookshops. I plan to focus on this in the summer and have already begun researching ISBN’s etc. I will share my findings nearer the time, but if anyone has any tips I’d love you to share them in the comments.

In other news, I’m having Visions produced as an audiobook! I will have a full post about that soon along with a sample. We’re aiming for a June release date. So look out for more news very soon.

Blogging Hiatus – Will be finishing WIP! #amwriting #amwritingfantasy

This is just a quick note to say that I will be taking a break from blogging, not that I have been the most prolific blogger over the last year anyway.

I will be doing my best to avoid obsessively checking my book sales, kindle unlimited pages read, reviews and all forms of social media. This will be cold turkey for me and I expect tears and tantrums!

I haven’t written properly for months, so starting now I have to commit to finishing The Sentinel’s Alliance and getting a publication date set for this year. I also have to prepare for the Winchester Festival and perfect my first chapter and synopsis, plus I have been speaking with a narrator regarding the possibility of producing an audiobook for Visions of Zarua! I feel like I have so much going on that I need to step back and just focus on the writing.

I will be back in April with some books reviews, and hopefully more news on the book front.

Please message me if you want to get in touch and I will respond as soon as I can.

The picture below is where I need to be in my head, writing until my fingers bleed!

An appeal for #reviewers & #bookbloggers to review my #fantasy books #indieauthor

Quote

I haven’t done one of these posts in a while. But right now, book reviewers and book bloggers I need your help!

help-please

I have 3 fantasy books published and I would love to get them reviewed on Amazon, Goodreads and your blogs. Over the last few months I’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of pages read in Kindle Unlimited – hitting between 22K and 24K per month!

Those numbers are a dream come true for me, but unfortunately none of these pages read have converted into reviews.

I would love to get some reviews for my books and I’m offering reviewers ARC copies of their choice. We can even run book giveaways for your readers if that’s something that would interest you.

I’m going to the Winchester Writer’s festival in June and I would love to be able to put in my cover letter that I have 60+ reviews and 100+ ratings on Goodreads. Can it be done? With your help, anything is possible!

The magical island of Kalaya is dying, along with its Sentinel.

The Assembly controls Kalaya. Originally set up to govern, they now persecute those with magic and exile them to the Turrak Mountains.

On the journey, an attack leaves her father mortally wounded. He entrusts her into the care of the exiles and on his deathbed makes a shocking confession.
Struggling with self doubt, Tei joins the exiles search for the new Sentinel who is the only person capable of restoring the fading magic. But mysterious Masked Riders are hunting the Sentinel too, and time, as well as hope, is running out.

Against mounting odds it will take friendship, heartache and sacrifice for the exiles to succeed in their quest, but is Tei willing to risk everything to save the island magic?

With magic restored on Kalaya, life is flourishing for Tei and the exiles. But Rathnor’s plans for war soon escalate and thwart any chance of peace.

Brogan’s position on the Assembly is uncertain as rumours circulate that he is an exile spy.

After an attempt on his life, Farrell is more determined than ever to build a home for his people on Stone Haven. But the council have their sights set on Kalaya and Farrell struggles to steer them from war.

2018 Wrap up – My writing year in review #amwriting

2018 has been a major year for me and it’s been good to look back over the highlights and have the opportunity to share them with you.

The year started off with a huge bang when I was approached by Albatros Media, a major publish in the Czech Republic. They are publishing a Czech translation of my debut novel, Visions of Zarua in the fall this year. 2018 saw one of my dreams come true and I earned (and spent) my first ever advance! I hope to be able to share a cover reveal with you very soon, I think the czech cover is perfect.

***

I received my first full MS request from an agent. This was a huge high point, though I’m very sad to say that I haven’t heard back from her since.

***

I published book 2 in the Silent Sea Chronicles – The Sentinel’s Reign at the end of June 2018 and it’s been seeing quite a lot of action on Kindle Unlimited, but unfortunately reviews are very slow to follow.

The Sentinel's Reign book cover

Please check the blurb and reviews on Goodreads and feel free to get in touch if you would like a copy to review.

In November I celebrated the 3rd birthday of Visions of Zarua with a birthday blitz hosted by 25 blogs and organised by Rachel’s Random Resources. It was a great day and I highly recommend Rachel’s services. I received 10 new reviews and had so much fun answering questions, writing guest posts and sharing extracts. Click here if you want to see the tour hosts involved and for Rachel’s info. I also posted about the day here part 1 and part 2.

I went to the Gollancz Writers’ Day. It hasn’t led to any breakthroughs with agents or traditional publishers, but it was a lot of fun going to an event centred around my genre. I spoke to other writers, bestselling authors, editors at Gollancz and a top agent. I feel more confident about attending days like this in the future. Here’s my review of the day.

***

I dusted off some of my favourite short stories, had them edited and beta read and then entered some competitions. So far, nothing has come from it but I have been inspired to produce my own short story anthology at some point in the future.

On a non-writing related topic, I lost 2 stone with Slimming World and feel so much happier about myself. I’ve tried dieting on and off for years, but it was only joining a group that really helped me reach my target weight and keep to it. I recommend it if losing weight is one of your new year’s resolutions.

***

In conclusion 2018 was a slow writing year, but I plan to change that in 2019. I hope to share the new technique I’m hoping will increase my output once I’ve tested it fully.

Join me next time where I will post about my plans for reading, writing and life in general for 2019. See you then.

Review from Nemesis Blog

‘Wow! Wow! Wow! What can I say?! This is an epic standalone fantasy. The world building Suzanne did for this book is incredible! …if you like fantasy, mystery, wizards, a bit of romance, the bad dude and monsters! I cannot recommend this book highly enough!’ Read the full review here.

Review On Odd socks and Lollipops

‘Visions of Zarua was a really enjoyable fantasy read, it reminded me of the older style fantasy novels I have read. It has a shattered timeline spanning 350 years, a mystery to solve, a host of vivid characters. I found the start was a little on the slow side, though it did set the scene well. The world-building was really interesting and I found that I really liked the world of the past, Zarua of 350 years ago.’ See full review here.

‘This is an amazing read and one that I strongly recommend checking out. Fantasy might not be your thing but definitely try this book. I think it will become a fast favorite.’ Read the full review here.

Review – Birdie’s Bibliotheca

‘The story itself progresses in a fairly standard manner: disastrous events lead to a staggering reveal which leads to a quest whereby more reveals are made, further inciting the need for the quest. The final climax is drawn out and convoluted, and maybe my favorite part of the story. Overall, I give this about a 4…’ Read the full review here.
