Love, Loss and Life In Between is out today! #newrelease #anthology #shortreads

At last, my new mixed genre short story collection is published! This has been a long time coming and I’m so pleased to share it with you all today.

It’s available from Amazon for only 99p worldwide, and the paperback is out now too.

I’m planning to release a hardback and large print edition to cover more bases very soon. The hardback edition will likely just be for my own benefit, but I’m hoping the large print edition will be more attractive to libraries. The audiobook option is something I’m less sure about as I don’t know what the market for short fiction is like. But it could be another avenue to follow in the future.

Amazon book page

This collection of short stories gives a glimpse into life, love, loss, and the inexplicable in between.

With themes of grief, finding hope and second chances, facing the consequences of your actions and getting help from the unlikeliest of places.

  • As Cecilia helps the dying, she questions what happens to their spirits. But is she ready to find out?
  • Can a mother’s race through the New Forest save her son?
  • Will visiting a medium bring Christina the closure she needs?
  • Can an intruder help an old lady with her loneliness?
  • Will the start of another wet and miserable Monday morning end with Maeve’s happy ever after?

The anthology includes the prize-winning flash fiction story – ‘Spirit Song’.

Spirit Song judge’s critique – ‘Unusual, emotional, warm, surprising — a warm, unusual story. It moved me when I read it.’

Full story list:
Spirit Song
Goodbye Forever
Garden Therapy
Starting Over
A Cat-Shaped Hole
The Phone Call
Knocked Off Her Feet
Catalyst
Not Just For Christmas
A Mermaid’s Tail

There is still time for reviewers and bloggers to join the 1 day blog blitz run by Rachel’s Random Resources. Sign up here.

At some point I will share some insight into some of these stories, especially Spirit Song, which is precious to me and won me my first success in a flash fiction competition.

Please consider sharing this new release with everyone you know, and if you have time in your busy lives for a quick read, why not give Love, Loss and Life In Between a go.

Thanks for reading.

Paperback release Fantasy Short Stories #new release #fantasy #shortfiction http://mybook.to/fantasySS

Just a quick post today to announce the publication of my fantasy short story collection in paperback.

The ebook came out in April and has received some lovely reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. I decided it was time to publish a paperback so those readers who prefer that format do not miss out on the origin stories of some of the characters from my fantasy worlds.

Readers loved Garrick in Silent Sea Chronicles and I loved writing Garrick the Protector set 10 years before the start of book 1 The Lost Sentinel.

Readers never had a chance to meet Kalesh in Visions of Zarua, so again I loved being able to introduce him to the world in The Guardian.

Finally, we have War Wounds which is an introduction to some of the characters who will feature in my new series Starlight Prophecy. I can’t wait to get working on this.

For now, here’s the all important link to Amazon Fantasy Short Stories

I’ve updated the blurb to a more succinct version too. Let me know what you think.

A collection of stories featuring characters from Visions of Zarua, ‘Silent Sea Chronicles’ and a glimpse into the new series, ‘Starlight Prophecy’.

The Guardian

With an assassin picking off wizards one-by-one, can Kalesh keep his students off the assassin’s radar long enough for his order to stop the killer?

Garrick the Protector

In a land that persecutes magic users, Mara’s mystical abilities puts her whole family in danger. Can her cousin, Garrick, get her to safety in the Turrak Mountains before the Assembly catches up with them?

War Wounds

When months of bloody battle unleash a sixth sense buried inside Calder, all he wants is to go home to his wife. But can he pick up his old life when the powers within him have been awakened?

Each story gives readers a tantalising glimpse into the fantasy worlds created by Suzanne Rogerson.

What readers are saying about Fantasy Short Stories

‘If you’re looking for some fantasy to jump into, these bite-sized stories will give you a good taste of something new – and if you’ve read these books already, these will give you some backstory of your favourite characters.’ Goodreads Reviewer

‘…a gripping little slice of what promises to be a gripping web of plots, intrigue, and mystic arts for those who venture on to read Rogerson’s full-length works.’ Goodreads Reviewer

‘If you enjoy fantasy with a touch of magic, and some really intriguing storylines, I would highly recommend this collection of short stories.’ of fantasy stories.’ Amazon reviewer

‘Entertaining! Interesting! Fast paced! Easy flow! Interesting characters! Page turner!’ Goodreads reviewer

New release from GJ Stevens – The Gemini Assignment #spy #thriller @stevens_gj

Exciting news!

Book 3 in the Agent Carrie Harris spy thriller series came out on 10th December 2021. I’ve enjoyed the prequel and first book in the series (links to my reviews below) and I look forward to catching up with the rest of the series in 2022.

Here’s the blurb for book 3…

The Gemini Assignment

Only hours after stepping from a plane, and still reeling from the turmoil of her last assignment (LESSON LEARNED), Agent Carrie Harris’s journey to headquarters is interrupted when the Operation Centre task her to hunt down something so sensitive they can’t even tell her about it.

Carrie is under no illusion that her second official assignment would be easy, but little did she know, whilst hunting down the first clue, a childhood she’d consigned to a distant memory would confront her in a way only helpful to the enemy.

Distracted by a time she’d thought she’d forgotten, Agent Harris battles to concentrate on the hunt leading her across London and onwards to the suburbs, hoping to stay one step ahead of rivals intent on getting to the prize first.

Despite a constant concern that if she doesn’t succeed so many could die, including an innocent who’d become so important to her, the chase takes her over the ocean where her fears seem as if they have come true. Can our hero stay focused enough to see if she’s a match for the evil she’s confronted with and return what was stolen, or will Carrie lose everything she holds dear, including her life?

For fans of John Wick, Jack Reacher, Sydney Bristow and Eve Polastri from Killing Eve.

Plus the series has brand new covers which look awesome. Book 3 has already received some great reviews which you can check on these links below;

#NewRelease The Lumbermill by Laya V. Smith @LayaVSmith #noirthriller

Today I’m excited to share news of a new release, The Lumbermill by Laya V. Smith.

The Blurb

Sending a pair of mass murderers to the chair got his name in the papers, but veteran fighter pilot turned detective, Augy Small, couldn’t celebrate. The culprits confessed, but the cops only ever found one body. Who had the killers died to protect?

Katya Tyler, a Russian enigma with a wad of cash in one hand and a hit list in the other, claims to have the answers. First, she wants Augy’s help to bring down a massive underground network of human traffickers.

As the case unfolds, every clue is an echo of his past. The horrors he experienced in the Pacific, shadows of scars he still carries, and rumors of a place long since destroyed.

The Lumbermill is back in operation. Every day more innocents are harvested, their screams muffled in darkness. And the only way Augy can stop it is to go back into the nightmare he thought he’d escaped forever.

Praise For The Lumbermill

“Shocking, alluring, and utterly absorbing. Whether you’re a fan of classic noir or white-knuckle action, I dare you to not be totally sucked in by The Lumbermill. As I turned the pages, I could smell the cigarette smoke and feel the fire on my back. What a ride!”

-Luke Swanson, The Ten and The Other Hamlet Brother

“Your mind wants to think of old black and white Dashiell Hammett or James. M. Cain PI tales, but Laya keeps digging deeper, tightening knots that tie her characters to dark pasts and to the utter blackness no one could imagine happening. Monsters do exist, and they are hard to defeat because death means nothing to them.”

-Val Conrad, The Julie Madigan Thriller Series

“A brutal, twisted, and beautifully written portrait of a detective taking on a web of evil.”  Timothy Gene Sojka, Payback Jack

“The Lumbermill is an action-packed thriller that hits all the right notes of the noir tradition. And yet, it’s also much more than that, with the vivid character development of Augy Small, a self-aware protagonist who struggles to overcome the emotional scars of lost love and his time as a POW. An engaging read, although not for the faint-hearted, The Lumbermill is hopefully the first of more novels from Laya V. Smith.”

-Alastair Luft, One Kingdom Under Heaven

Author Bio

Laya V. Smith was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and still calls the city home with her husband and two children. She is a member of International Thriller Writers, AWP, and LUW. She has a degree in history from the University of Utah. “The Lumbermill” is her debut novel.

The Lumbermill sounds intriguing, I hope you have the chance to check it out.

There is also an audiobook narrated by the author Laya V. Smith and George Ellington. You may know George narrated my new audiobook The Lost Sentinel.

I’ll leave you with the very cool and creepy book trailer from Laya’s YouTube channel (Laya also very kindly produced a trailer for my audiobook, which is also on her channel). Enjoy!

I am really happy to be sharing news of a new release from my author friend G J Stevens. Before the End is out today!

before the end cover

Blurb
Digging up this once-in-a-lifetime story could have lethal consequences…

Jess Carmichael longs to break a news feature that will change the world. But the TV reporter never expects a mysterious telephone call from her ex to be the source. Rushing to a shady government facility, Jess struggles to believe the outrageous reports…
With her loyal camera crew by her side, the intrepid journalist arrives in Cornwall at her partner’s last known location. But when Jess pushes for access, she gets more than she bargained for. Still kept in the dark, she’s about to play a starring role in a twisted and grisly exclusive…
Can Jess expose a sinister cover up before millions fall prey to a zombie outbreak?

Before The End is the second and standalone book in the thrilling post-apocalyptic series In The End. If you like dark horror, fast-paced action, and bloodthirsty zombies, then you’ll love GJ Stevens’ high-stakes tale.

About the author

GJ Stevens started writing fiction at the age of thirty. Even as an engineer with a large family and a full time career with plenty of adult responsibilities, he has always had a creative side. After years of self-suppression, the flood gates opened and his novel In The End is the culmination of many years of finding time from nowhere to learn the craft.

Whilst working to independently publish and make a success of his novels, Gareth lays bare his publishing journey through his blog, drawing together advice and knowledge from those already in the industry.

As a lover of the outdoors, every year he spends weekends out in the desolate countryside of the UK hiking and camping with his long-time friends which he uses as inspiration for both his creative fiction works and the subject of many a blog post. GJ Stevens is on the beginning of his publishing journey and wants to share the highs and lows with anyone who will listen.

BOOK ONE

I read book 1 earlier this year and highly recommend In the End. It was a real page turner and I loved the fact a zombie thriller was set in England, especially as Cornwall was a childhood holiday destination of mine. Thankfully we never had to deal with any zombies!

My mini review of In The End from Goodreads – 5 starsThis is the first zombie book I’ve read and I’m so glad I took a chance on a different genre.
I loved the fast pace and short chapters which kept me turning the pages. For the poor characters thrust into this nightmarish situation there is no let up. Even when you think they’re safe to lie down and rest, just for a moment, another shocking twist is waiting around the corner.
Be warned, it ends with a cliff hanger and I can’t wait to see what happens next!’

Check out Gareth’s books on Goodreads and Amazon.

Silent Sea Chronicles Publication week wrap up #newrelease #fantasy #boxset

It’s been a week since I released the box set of my Silent Sea Chronicles trilogy. A week of watching the public snap it up at the bargain price of 99p. I’ve sold 241 copies in just 7 days so I’m really pleased with that number and hopefully these sales will lead to some reviews.

I think I would need to sell that many a day to get anywhere in the Amazon rankings, but it’s still amazing and it has kept me going while I struggle through a bad cold that’s completely wiped me out.

The sale runs until tomorrow, so if you haven’t picked it up you’ll have to be quick. Amazon link.

Blurb

Tei has magic in a world where people like her are persecuted and forced into exile. Whilst fleeing their home, her father is attacked and his deathbed confession reveals a dangerous secret that will change her life forever.

Tei’s homeland, the magical island of Kalaya, is dying and without a Sentinel to restore the magic, it’s only a matter of time before all life is wiped out.

She must join the exiles in the search for the lost Sentinel, but they are not the only ones after the missing guardian. Sinister Masked Riders are on their trail and time is running out.

Tei must risk everything she loves to save Kalaya, but is she ready to make that sacrifice?

1396 pages of magic, adventure and intrigue.

This epic fantasy box set contains:
The Lost Sentinel – Book 1
The Sentinel’s Reign – Book 2
The Sentinel’s Alliance – Book 3

I wanted to thank all the wonderful bloggers who have been helping share the news over the last week and whose posts I know have led to sales.  I thought it would be great to share links to their posts and maybe you can find some new bloggers and reviewers to follow.

Also a quick thanks to those who have been sharing the tweets about the release. I appreciate each and every bit of help from you all.

Here’s the posts I’m excited to highlight, many of which have links to their reviews of my books.

The Strawberry Post

‘Today there is a special announcement on my blog, an author interview and a bit of a promo post (which I’m volunteering to do), about a book series I’m already excitedly reading and would love to share with everyone.  The Silent Sea Chronicles is a trilogy of fantasy books from author Suzanne Rogerson.  I’ve so far read the first two books in the series and they have been amazing (links to my reviews below) and I’m sure the third book will be equally brilliant wrapping up what is an amazing, emotional and epic fantasy tale…’

A line from a book

‘Good new everybody! Suzanne Rogerson’s Silent Sea Chronicles is now a 3 book boxed set. I have had the privilege so far of reading and reviewing the first 2 books. “The Lost Sentinel” and .“The Sentinel’s Reign” (click links for my reviews). Quote taken from review of book 3 – ‘I love this series, and I’m sad to see it end. I took longer to read this one, because I wasn’t ready to leave this world or these characters. I love Suzanne Rogerson’s writing. I can’t wait to read more from her. I highly recommend this series! You won’t want to miss it!’

BooksfromDusktilDawn

‘I am delighted to let you know that SILENT SEA CHRONICLES BOX SET by Suzanne Rogerson is NOW available for purchase at an incredible introductory price of only 99p worldwide on Amazon kindle for I whole week. This is an awesome bargain!!!!!!’ (previously reviewed all three books.)

Yes more Blogs

Quote from book 3 review – ‘WOW!! Unbelievable. Amazing. Brilliant. Wonderful. Beautiful. Just a few words to describe not just this book but the whole trilogy has been an undeniably amazing read. I read all three books one after the other. I usually have a break between trilogy books but I couldn’t put these books down…’

Odd Socks and Lollipops

‘…Three amazing books filled with magic for 99p! I loved reading this trilogy and I would definitely recommend for fantasy fans…’

Just Books

Review from book 1 – ‘I loved this character-based fantasy…Suzanne Rogerson has created a wonderful world, and thankfully I was able to dive straight into the second book of the series.’

Kim’s Process

Previously reviewed book 1 – ‘The detail in the writing was also strong and descriptive.  I found myself in tears over the death of a character that was never even introduced just because the funeral was so emotional… a book I would highly recommend to other writers who are struggling with their descriptions.’

The Sentinel’s Alliance – Publication day #fantasy #epicfantasy #blogtour #newrelease

The day is finally here. After years of writing I can finally say I’ve completed and published a complete trilogy! I am very proud of these books and delighted with the response from readers and reviewers.

Today I’ve been busy selling books on a market stall in my local town centre – Staines upon Thames. It was an early start as we needed to arrive by 7am to get the pitch. We managed to bag a spot right outside Waterstones. It was an intense day and I met lots of interesting people and sold a few books. It’s always great to speak to readers in person and there’s no better feeling than signing a copy of your book and seeing the reader walk away happy with their purchase.

Thanks to Gareth Stevens and Laura Laakso for sharing the pitch.

Whilst I was busy on the market stall, reviewers and bloggers have been sharing the news that my latest book The Sentinel’s Alliance is out now.

blog banner

You can still pick up your copy for only 99p but be warned, I will be putting the price up soon.

The Sentinel’s Alliance – Amazon universal link

The whole trilogy is still on sale for only 99p each worldwide. I won’t go on about it anymore today as you’re probably already fed up with all my recent posts about the book launch.

Instead I’m off to check out all the reviews and promo posts that have been happening today and I will be back tomorrow to share some of the highlights and thank all the bloggers involved. Keep an eye out on social media and I hope if you’ve pick up the books that you’ll enjoy them. Until tomorrow…

Mid year update #amwriting #amwritingfantasy #indieauthor

I haven’t been around on social media as much as I’d like as I’ve been juggling writing projects. I hope things will calm down once my latest book is released on 6th July. More about that in a moment.

What I’ve been doing…

I’ve tried a few new ventures. A craft bookstall at my local high street Staines-upon-Thames, where I met some nice people and managed to sell a few books too. A couple of people bought all three of my books, which was a great boost and made the day worthwhile.

DSC_3845

I shared the stall with G.J Stevens who writes Zombie thrillers. I’ve read his debut In The End and highly recommend it. Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to share my review here at some point.

A week later, I joined forces with two authors G.J Stevens again and Katy Johnson who writes mystery thrillers and we ran a pop-up author shop in Eton high street. It wasn’t as successful as Staines, but again I met some interesting people and we hope to run the shop again in July on a couple of dates. More info will follow and I hope to get some more pictures the next time around.

DSC_3860

DSC_3863

I now feel more confidant with these type of events and have my public liability set up for a year, so I’m determined to make more use of it! Anyone know any local events we can crash?

Last week I went to Winchester Writers’ Festival and attended a fun workshop about fantasy writing run by Jasper Fforde. I also pitched a new novel idea to two agents and a publisher and received some encouraging feedback along with plenty of ideas to develop the novel. I highly recommend the day and want to thank @JunoGoldstone for showing me around and making the day less daunting.

Writing News

I’ve spent months editing and finalising Book 3 – The Sentinel’s Alliance. Now it’s just the last proofread to do before the big release day 6th July 2019! The pre-order is live, so why not make my day and pre-order a copy for only 99p worldwide.

Can new alliances save the islands of the Silent Sea from the murderers stalking their shores?

Find out in The Sentinel’s Alliance.

I will share more news about the blog tour run by Rachel’s Random Resources tomorrow, but here’s a quick peek at all the wonderful bloggers taking part.

On the 6th July, the release day for The Sentinel’s Alliance, Rachel will also be running a one day book blitz with 32 bloggers involved. More news to follow. It will be epic!

OTHER NEWS

And onto my other big news, the audiobook for Visions of Zarua is complete and is just going through the checks by ACX. I hope to have a link to share very soon. Any audio book reviewers who enjoy fantasy and want a free code, let me know and I’ll add you to the list.

I have another very interesting project in the pipeline and good news for all the residents of Staines-upon-Thames, I’ll be appearing in a pop-up craft shop in July. I’ll cover this in another post very soon.

That’s it for my latest news, so I’ll be back tomorrow with the start of the two book blog tour. Hope you can join us.

I’ll leave you with the trailer for the audiobook. Guy Barnes, the narrator, composed the music and produced this trailer. It’s brilliant, so please share.
