About Suzanne Rogerson Author

Suzanne lives in Middlesex, England with her husband, two children, a crazy cocker spaniel and a rather aloof cat. Her writing journey began at the age of twelve when she completed her first novel. She discovered the fantasy genre in her late teens and has never looked back. Giving up work to raise a family gave Suzanne the impetus to take her attempts at novel writing beyond the first draft, and she is lucky enough to have a husband who supports her dream - even if he does occasionally hint that she might think about getting a proper job one day. Now an author of four fantasy novels including the Silent Sea Chronicles trilogy and her debut fantasy, Visions of Zarua, Suzanne has also turned her hand to short stories. At last count, she has 4 books to her name including two feel-good Christmas collections. She loves gardening and has a Hebe (shrub) fetish. She enjoys cooking with ingredients from the garden and regularly feeds unsuspecting guests vegetable-based cakes. Suzanne collects books, is interested in history and enjoys wandering around castles and old ruins whilst being immersed in the past. She likes to combine her love of nature and photography on family walks, but most of all she loves to escape with a great film, binge watch TV shows, or soak in a hot bubble bath with an ice cream and a book.

Day Two: Silent Sea Chronicles #blogtour #fantasy #bookreviews

It is day two of the blog tour and I’m excited to share the reviews that have come in so far for The Lost Sentinel – book 1 in my Silent Sea Chronicles trilogy.

The reviews have all been very positive and I have to admit enjoying reading what reviewers have to say – maybe a little too much! Writing is such an insular occupation, so seeing how others enjoy and connect with my characters and story is one of the most rewarding things in the world!

Before I go into one, here are some of the things the reviewers have been saying along with links to their blog posts. Please support them by liking their posts and of course sharing everything on social media. I’d love to reach some new readers during the tour.

Here goes…

Jessica Belmont‘I highly recommend checking this one out. It’s addictive, fast-paced, with some really fantastic world-building. I can’t wait to continue in this series!’

Cheryl’s M & M Book Blog‘It’s high fantasy with solid world-building and an interesting set of characters.’

K T Robson‘With all the intricate world building, interesting characters and epic journey they all partake in, this book had me glued to it from the first page… Suzanne Rogerson has written a fantastic start to this series – I love her writing style, and that she doesn’t shy away from putting her characters through some tough challenges as the story progresses.’

Terror Tree‘…I got drawn into a story that gave me excitement and heartbreak… If you love fantasy and quest than pick up this series.’

Splashes into books‘A very different story, this is an intriguing, magical adventure and a great start to a new series.’

If these wonderful quotes have whet your appetite, the whole trilogy is on sale – 99p/c each during the 10 day blog tour.

Mid year update #amwriting #amwritingfantasy #indieauthor

I haven’t been around on social media as much as I’d like as I’ve been juggling writing projects. I hope things will calm down once my latest book is released on 6th July. More about that in a moment.

What I’ve been doing…

I’ve tried a few new ventures. A craft bookstall at my local high street Staines-upon-Thames, where I met some nice people and managed to sell a few books too. A couple of people bought all three of my books, which was a great boost and made the day worthwhile.

DSC_3845

I shared the stall with G.J Stevens who writes Zombie thrillers. I’ve read his debut In The End and highly recommend it. Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to share my review here at some point.

A week later, I joined forces with two authors G.J Stevens again and Katy Johnson who writes mystery thrillers and we ran a pop-up author shop in Eton high street. It wasn’t as successful as Staines, but again I met some interesting people and we hope to run the shop again in July on a couple of dates. More info will follow and I hope to get some more pictures the next time around.

DSC_3860

DSC_3863

I now feel more confidant with these type of events and have my public liability set up for a year, so I’m determined to make more use of it! Anyone know any local events we can crash?

Last week I went to Winchester Writers’ Festival and attended a fun workshop about fantasy writing run by Jasper Fforde. I also pitched a new novel idea to two agents and a publisher and received some encouraging feedback along with plenty of ideas to develop the novel. I highly recommend the day and want to thank @JunoGoldstone for showing me around and making the day less daunting.

Writing News

I’ve spent months editing and finalising Book 3 – The Sentinel’s Alliance. Now it’s just the last proofread to do before the big release day 6th July 2019! The pre-order is live, so why not make my day and pre-order a copy for only 99p worldwide.

Can new alliances save the islands of the Silent Sea from the murderers stalking their shores?

Find out in The Sentinel’s Alliance.

SALE ALERT

To celebrate this, and to kick off the 10 day review blog tour starting tomorrow (21st June), I have reduced each book in the series to 99p. That’s all three books for £2.97 – on offer worldwide. How can you resist?

I will share more news about the blog tour run by Rachel’s Random Resources tomorrow, but here’s a quick peek at all the wonderful bloggers taking part.

On the 6th July, the release day for The Sentinel’s Alliance, Rachel will also be running a one day book blitz with 32 bloggers involved. More news to follow. It will be epic!

OTHER NEWS

And onto my other big news, the audiobook for Visions of Zarua is complete and is just going through the checks by ACX. I hope to have a link to share very soon. Any audio book reviewers who enjoy fantasy and want a free code, let me know and I’ll add you to the list.

I have another very interesting project in the pipeline and good news for all the residents of Staines-upon-Thames, I’ll be appearing in a pop-up craft shop in July. I’ll cover this in another post very soon.

That’s it for my latest news, so I’ll be back tomorrow with the start of the two book blog tour. Hope you can join us.

I’ll leave you with the trailer for the audiobook. Guy Barnes, the narrator, composed the music and produced this trailer. It’s brilliant, so please share.

Writer Get Noticed! by Colleen. M. Story #tuesdaybookblog #bookreview #howtoguide #writers

Do you sometimes feel that you are getting lost in the sea of books and authors out there? Then Writer Get Noticed! is the book for you! Before I share my review, here’s the blurb…

Blurb

Stop feeling invisible and start attracting the attention you deserve.

Have you been writing for years, but feel like no one notices? Have you published your stories, only to gain a handful of readers? Do your marketing efforts feel like shouting into a void?

Veteran writer and motivational coach Colleen M. Story helps you break the spell of invisibility to reveal the author platform that will finally draw readers your way.

There are more books out there than ever before, and readers have many other things vying for their attention. A writer can feel like a needle in a haystack, and throwing money at the problem rarely helps. What does work is creating a platform that stands out, but in a sea of a million platforms, how is one to do that?

Writer Get Noticed! takes a new approach, dispelling the notion that fixing your writing flaws and expanding your social media reach will get you the readers you deserve. Instead, discover a myriad of strengths you didn’t know you had, then use them to find your author theme, power up your platform, and create a new author business blueprint, all while gaining insight into what sets you apart as a writer and creative artist.

Writers need readers to achieve their highest potential. Find your way to stand out, and let it lead you to the writing career that fulfills all your expectations and more.

In this motivational and inspiring book, you’ll learn:

•Why improving your writing skills isn’t enough.
•Why it’s critical you discover your strengths…and how to do so.
•What’s stopping you from finding the readers who love your work.
•What you really want from writing and why that matters.
•Easy methods to help you build a more successful author platform.
•What truly motivates you and how to use that to succeed.
•The author theme that unites your creative work and fits your style.
•How imposter syndrome can stall your progress, and how to overcome it.
•How to make better decisions about your writing career as a whole.

When you find the treasure that’s been inside you all along, don’t be surprised if it opens new doors you never thought possible.

My Review

This is an intense book that helps you discover a lot about yourself as a writer and makes you think about your goals. Armed with this knowledge you can focus on your author platform and work towards your strengths. The book helps you discover those strengths and use them to come up with your author theme and mission statement. It uses questionnaires and journalling to help you reach deep and discover not just what motivates you, but also your decision making processes and how you can use them to your advantage.

It’s a book to take time over. You need to sit quietly and answer the questions honestly to get the most out of the tasks the book sets you. I really enjoyed the opportunity to focus on my goals, something that often gets lost with so many looming deadlines. Another highlight of the book was making me focus on my strengths and achievements so far.

The questions are backed up by research and well presented facts. As well as the soul searching questionnaires, and multiple choice questions in this book, there are also many examples of other writers’ stories, which are often touching and always inspirational.

Writer Get Noticed! is an in-depth book I think many writers can learn from.

Check it out on Goodreads and Amazon

I also highly recommend Colleen’s book Overwhelmed Writer Rescue, here’s my review.

Note – I received an arc copy of Writer Get Noticed. A big apology to Colleen Story as I have been meaning to review this great book much sooner, but writing and editing deadlines got in the way. I hope to put all I have learnt about myself and the direction I want to take my career into action very soon.

The blurb

Can new alliances save the Silent Sea Islands from the murderers stalking their shores?

As the island of Kalaya and its people recover from civil war, a new threat surfaces. Invaders from the island of Elkena hunt the seas for magic users, determined to obliterate them. Their scar-faced captain seeks the Fire Mage and Tei and her people are in his warpath.

Tei and a band of Kalayans travel to Stone Haven, the home of their new allies, planning to restore magic to the dead island. But the Stone Haven Council have abhorred magic since their people were massacred by Elkenan invaders twenty years before. Commander Farrell must persuade his people to accept magic again, but his plans expose them to their biggest fear and he risks leading Tei and her people into danger, and jeopardising the safety of both their islands.

Under Farrell’s guidance treaties are forged, but is the newly formed Silent Sea Alliance enough to defeat the invaders and stop their bloodthirsty quest to destroy magic forever?

Visions of Zarua Czech cover reveal #fantasy #translation

I am very excited to share the book cover for the Czech translation of Visions of Zarua. I believe the translation of the title is Zarua – Lost City.

The publication date is 9th September 2019.

Zarua

What do you think of the cover? I really love it and did have something similar in mind before I found the image for my own self published version. The designer has done a wonderful job bringing the book to life.

Here’s my cover for comparison, still pretty good I think.

Visions of Zarua book cover

Fragment’s Pendragon world fantasy series includes some wonderful authors, including my hero Robin Hobb! Seeing my book alongside hers in the quarterly magazine is a dream come true.

It’s so exciting to think that in just a few months Visions of Zarua will be available in bookshops and it’s made me more determined to get my book into UK bookshops. I plan to focus on this in the summer and have already begun researching ISBN’s etc. I will share my findings nearer the time, but if anyone has any tips I’d love you to share them in the comments.

In other news, I’m having Visions produced as an audiobook! I will have a full post about that soon along with a sample. We’re aiming for a June release date. So look out for more news very soon.
